Collagen boosting smoothie

Skin care from within

Collagen is the super glue of our body. It keeps everything in its place (bones, blood vessels, etc) including our skin. This powerful protein sadly naturally reduces as we grow older and the decline in collagen is the reason behind skin sagging and wrinkling or to put it simple: making it look less youthful. Unlike a lot of creams and serums want to make us believe, the impact of anything applied on our skin with regards to anti aging and skin health is fairly limited. You are what you eat and what you eat effects the look and condition of our skin with collagen being critical to the vitality and youthfulness of our skin. I am in no way claiming that this smoothie is just as effective as those collagen powders or drinks you can get at the beauty vendor of your choice, BUT the ingredients of this smoothie all contain vitamins provided by mother nature for consumption that enable our body to produce pro-collagen, a procursor to collagen. While the largest source of this protein in nature is bone broth, don’t worry, I did not include that in this smoothie. I wouldn’t go that far. This drink does however include fruits and berries, which all contain vitamin c, a very powerful agent for your bodies ability to create pro-collagen including guava (which also contains zinc, another element that helps your body with collagen production).

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup of oat milk or almond milk (120 ml)
  • 1/2 orange
  • 1/2 kiwi
  • 1/2 guava
  • 1/2 cup of diced pineapple
  • 1/2 cup of blueberries
  • 1/2 cup of blackberries

I prefer to use frozen blue- and blackberries as they add a bit of chill to the smoothie without having to add any ice cubes as those tend to water down the drink too much.
